No direct railroad exists to Kotagiri. The closest railroad that exists is from Mettupalayam to Coonoor, which further goes on to Ooty. The best choice if one plans to travel by rail, would be to board a train from any place in the country to Coimbatore and then board one to Mettupalayam. From there board the Nilgiri Mountain Railway to Coonoor. After reaching Coonoor, all you have to do is board a bus or hire a cab to Kotagiri, which is relatively close by.
