The Gujarat Ayurveda University, established in the year 1967, is the oldest university in Gujarat, dedicated to the ancient Indian system of medicine. Set up due to the strong support for Ayurveda extended by the rulers of the princely state of Nawanagar, the varsity has various departments and courses including short and long term programmes for the foreigners. The college has its own hospitals and a garden of medicinal herbs.
