The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway (SCR) successfully managed the heavy passenger rush during the Sankranti festival through careful planning and strong coordination. To handle the large number of travelers, the division ran 254 special trains to ensure that passengers could move smoothly across different routes during the festive

season.
Special Train Services from Vijayawada
Out of these special services, 54 trains started from Vijayawada, 56 ended within the division, and 144 trains passed through the region. This clearly highlighted the importance of Vijayawada as a major railway hub, especially during peak travel periods, including festivals.
Vijayawada Trains
January 12 turned out to be the most challenging day of the season. On this day, Rajahmundry railway station handled as many as 198 trains. This was particularly difficult because the station has limited space and tight operational margins, making train management more complex. Despite these challenges, operations continued smoothly. On the same day, Vijayawada Junction managed an even higher number, 296 trains, demonstrating the division's strong operational capacity and efficiency.
Handling of Sankranti Rush
To ensure smooth functioning, railway staff at major stations worked round the clock. Their responsibilities included managing train movements, regulating platforms, controlling crowds, maintaining signals, and guiding passengers. Extra care was taken to avoid delays and ensure passenger safety during the rush.
Employees from various departments worked together closely. Station staff, pointsmen, loco pilots, guards, and teams from signalling and engineering departments coordinated their efforts. Many staff members extended their duty hours to keep services running safely and on time.
The successful handling of the Sankranti rush highlighted the commitment and professionalism of railway employees. Their hard work ensured that lakhs of passengers could travel safely and comfortably during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya said that managing Sankranti traffic is always challenging, and this year the teams performed exceptionally well through teamwork and coordination.
