Work has finally started on the planned 1.5 km elevated Metro extension between Vanaz and Chandni Chowk, an important step toward improving Metro connectivity at the western entry point of the city. This project was approved last year and will include two stations, Kothrud Depot and Chandni Chowk.

Pune Metro Construction
According to Maha Metro officials, the construction will be carried out in different phases. Barricades will be set up with the help of traffic police, but efforts will be made to keep as much road space open as possible so that vehicles can move smoothly on both sides during the work.
Flyover Building
Last month, a contractor was appointed to build the Metro viaduct and the two stations. Moreover, a flyover is planned near the Kothrud Depot area, which will be constructed along with the Metro line. Over the past few months, Maha Metro and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have conducted site visits to decide the exact locations of the stations and their entry and exit points.
Work on the Chandni Chowk Area
An official said that initial work has already started in the Chandni Chowk area, including soil testing and surveys. The existing Metro structure near the Vanaz depot has already been extended slightly, and further construction towards Chandni Chowk will begin from there. Plans are also being finalised for a foot overbridge (FOB) at Chandni Chowk to help people safely cross the busy highway and access the Metro. This bridge is considered an important part of the project.
Residents have welcomed the development. Many people said that not having a Metro connection up to Chandni Chowk had been inconvenient. Commuters often had to travel to Vanaz station first to use the Metro. Residents are now hoping that the project will be completed quickly to improve daily travel.
