Starting December 7, Surat railway station will undergo significant changes as part of its transformation into a Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH). This ambitious redevelopment project will temporarily close platforms 2 and 3, impacting the regular schedule of many trains. Out of 180 trains that usually stop at Surat, 83 will be rerouted to the nearby Udhna station. However, Surat station will continue to handle 66 trains as usual, with another 31 trains operating only in the afternoon.

Temporary Changes to Train Services
The closure of platforms 2 and 3 is necessary for the redevelopment work. While some trains are being redirected, Surat station will remain operational, ensuring that the city stays connected. Premium trains passing through Surat will also experience changes. Their platforms will be adjusted, and stoppage times at Surat will be reduced. These measures aim to minimize passenger inconvenience during the renovation.
The redevelopment project also involves careful planning of train schedules and platform usage to maintain smooth operations. Despite the temporary disruption, the focus is on keeping essential train services running efficiently.
Structural Improvements at Surat Station
This transformation of Surat station is more than just a platform upgrade. The construction work includes building a COP (cover-over-platform) foundation roof, lift columns, and beams on platforms 2 and 3. These developments are crucial for converting the station into a modern transport hub.
While platforms 2 and 3 will remain closed for 98 days, the redevelopment of platform 4 is already complete. However, it is not yet in use due to unresolved road and parking issues on the station's east side.
Long-Term Benefits for Surat
Although the temporary changes may cause inconvenience to passengers, this project is part of a broader plan to enhance Surat's rail infrastructure. By becoming a Multi-Modal Transport Hub, Surat station will offer improved facilities and better connectivity for travelers.
Rerouting 83 trains to Udhna station ensures that passengers still have options during the redevelopment. The thoughtful planning behind these adjustments reflects an effort to reduce the impact on travelers as much as possible.
A Modern Future for Surat
The next 98 days may bring challenges for passengers using Surat station, but the long-term benefits are worth the wait. Once the project is complete, Surat will have a state-of-the-art transport hub, ready to serve the city's growing transportation needs.
This redevelopment marks an important step forward for Surat's rail network, promising a more modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly travel experience for the future.
