Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojari recently met with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to talk about rail improvements for coastal Karnataka. He handed over a detailed letter asking for better train services and stronger railway infrastructure in the region.

Vande Bharat Extension to Coastal Karnataka
Poojari stressed the need to extend the Vande Bharat Express train service from Bangalore to the coastal districts, including Mangaluru, Udupi, Kundapura, and Uttara Kannada. He pointed out that more than 600 buses and many private vehicles travel between the coast and Bengaluru every day, carrying thousands of passengers, which can be tiring and uncomfortable. According to him, a high-speed Vande Bharat train on this route would offer faster, more comfortable travel, reduce road traffic, and help daily commuters, students, professionals, and tourists.
Speeding Work on the Konkan Railway Line
Moreover, the MP urged the minister to speed up work on the Konkan Railway line from Mangaluru to Mumbai, which is currently a single track. Poojari requested a full survey and funding to convert this line into a double track, which would allow more trains to run and improve overall rail capacity in the region. He said doubling the line is important to reduce bottlenecks, increase train frequency, and support economic growth along the coastal belt.
Poojari noted that parts of the Konkan Railway are already being upgraded, but more work is needed. He hopes that his proposals will be included in upcoming railway plans and budgets.
