Kedarnath to Get 12.9 km Ropeway, Now Complete 8-Hour Trek in Just 36 Minutes

In a major step to improve the pilgrimage journey to Kedarnath, the central government has approved ₹4,081 crore for building a ropeway. This project will reduce the long and difficult 8-9 hour trek from Sonprayag to just 36 minutes. The ropeway is part of the National Ropeways Development Programme - Parvatmala Pariyojana, which aims to improve travel to important religious sites.

Kedarnath to Get 12 9 km Ropeway

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the project a huge milestone in the journey of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath. He emphasized how the ropeway will make travel easier and faster for thousands of devotees every year.

Faster and Easier Travel for Pilgrims

The ropeway will be 12.9 kilometers long and will transform the way people reach the Kedarnath temple. Currently, pilgrims must walk or take mules through steep and rough paths, which can be very challenging, especially for the elderly and those with health issues. The new ropeway will make the journey smooth and comfortable for all visitors.

With a much shorter travel time, the ropeway will help devotees reach the temple quickly and without physical strain. It will also help manage the large number of pilgrims who visit Kedarnath each year, making the overall experience better.

A Modern Approach to Infrastructure

The project will be built under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, ensuring efficiency and sustainability. The investment of ₹4,081.28 crore shows the government's strong commitment to improving religious tourism in India.

As the construction progresses, more details about the technology and operation of the ropeway will be shared. The government is focusing on modernizing religious sites across the country, recognizing their importance to India's culture and spirituality.

The Kedarnath ropeway project is a big step towards modernizing pilgrimage travel in India. By cutting down travel time significantly, it will make the journey easier and more comfortable for devotees. This project is not just about improving transport; it also highlights the government's dedication to supporting religious tourism and boosting the local economy.

Once completed, the ropeway will become an essential part of the Kedarnath pilgrimage, allowing devotees to enjoy a smoother and more fulfilling spiritual journey.
