    Guhagar Beach

    The Guhagar Beach is a serene spot that is lined with thick suru tree plantations. It is placed just about 200 m away from the Guhagar State Transport Depot in the state of Maharashtra, near Guhagar. This untouched beach is popular for its white sand and mystical scenery. It is located to the west of the main town of Guhagar and is popular for beach activities.

    Tourists can indulge in swimming and sunbathing amongst other exciting options. The beach is dotted with several food stalls and chaat stalls that offer local cuisine at its sumptuous best. Nearby, there is also a flea market that might interest the tourists.

    Visitors and locals generally throng this place for a much needed seclusion and private time from the busy lives that we are so accustomed to on a daily basis. It makes for a perfect spot to enjoy some fun activities with your family and loved ones on a weekend here. The beach is considered to be safe for children.   • 02Hedvi

    Hedvi is a small village situated near the town of Guhagar lying in the Konkan Region of the state of Maharashtra. This village is particularly famous for its Lord Ganesha Temple and the Shri Dasabhuj Lakshmi Ganesh Devasthan that is based here.

    The latter attraction got its name from the idol of Lord Ganesha and possesses the Dasha Bhuja – which means Ten Hands in Hindi. It is believed that this temple was constructed during the reign of the Peshwas, and the marble that was used to make the Ganesha Idol was brought from Jammu and Kashmir.

    Hedvi is also home to the Uma Maheshwari Temple and the Brahman Ghal. The Brahman Ghal is a natural gorge that is about 35 ft long and 20 ft deep. The gorge is in black rock and is about 2 ft wide. This nature’s beauty spouts milky bubbles during the tidal period, when the sea water gushes into the Gorge.

  • 03Vyadeshwar Temple

    Vyadeshwar Temple

    The Vyadeshwar Temple is situated in the Ratnagiri district in the village of Guhagar. Like the Guhagar Beach, the Vyadeshwar Temple too is located near the Guhagar State Transport Bus Depot.

    The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has several other idols of Talkeshwar, Udaleshwar and Balkeshwar. Idols of gods like Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sridevi, Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya are found here.

    This temple is especially a major attraction during the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri – a festival celebrated in reverence of Lord Shiva. There is a huge fair organized during the same period and visitors will delight in the local flavour and culture that is exhibited during this time.

  • 04Gopalgad Hill

    Gopalgad Hill

    The Gopalgad Hill is situated in the village of Anjanvel in Guhagar, and is renowned for its beautiful and captivating surroundings. The hill is home to the Anjanvel Fort that is believed to have been constructed in and around the 16th Century, by the then Bijapur rulers.

    The fort was later captured under Shivaji’s reign in 1660. Post Shivaji’s demise in 1680, the fort was taken over by Siddi Khairat Khan, and later captured by Tuloji Angre in 1744. However, once the Maratha Empire began to crumble in 1818, the British took over the fort and it remained under them until 1947, when India gained its independence!

    The fort is sprawled over a massive area of 7 acres and is divided into two units – the lower part, called the Padkot, and the upper wall, known as the Balekot. The fort was fortified with strong and sturdy walls that provided defence from the incoming enemy.

    The location of the fort atop the hill makes for plenty trekking opportunities. Enthusiastic and adventurous trekkers will love the challenging trek up, amidst the mystical nature that will leave anyone zapped.

    Chandika Mandir

    The Chandika Mandir is an underground temple that is based 15–20 ft deep in the earth, set up in a cave. It is situated at a distance of about 15 km to the north of the town of Guhagar. The temple was discovered about three centuries back, and its origination dates back further in history.

    The main deity of the temple is believed to have appeared on her own – that is, the idol isn’t manmade. There also exists a tomb right outside this underground cave temple and is supposed to be dedicated to the person who found the temple.

    Anjanvel

    Anjanvel is located at the confluence of the Vashishti river and the mighty Arabian Sea. It is a quaint fishing village that also happens to be a sea port. As a seaport, Anjanvel provides for ship building, ship maintenance and old ship breaking activities.

    Meanwhile, as a fishing village, it interests the curious tourists in its traditional fishing practices that seamlessly blend with modern fishing boats and engines.

    Velneshwar

    The Velneshwar village is located at a distance of about 20 km from the village of Guhagar. It is popular for its beach that goes by the same name as the village. The village of Velneshwar is mainly a fishing community, lying on the banks of river Shastri.

    The village is clean and extremely scenic, while the Velneshwar Beach is the most famous attraction here. The beach is pristine and lined with coconut groves. It is full of white sand. The Velneshwar Beach offers several water-based activities like swimming, motor boats, etc.

    The village is situated on the main road of Guhagar-Hedvi and is also known for the Lord Shiva Temple. This temple is revered to be the Kuldaivat of the Kokanashtha Chitpavan Brahmins and sees a lot of tourist activity during the festival of Maha Shivratri. One can espy a huge Deepamaal at the entrance with nearby shrines of other Gods like Kala Bhairav, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva.
