    As the name suggest, Karnavas is a historic city which has been named after one of the greatest heroes of Mahabharata, Karna. King Karna was known for his philanthropic activity and was known as Danveer Karna. Legend has it that during his days, Karna would donate about 50 kg of gold every day. While here, tourists can visit the temple of Goddess Kalyani, which also dates back to the Mahabharata period.     Anoopshahr

    According to historical records, Anupshahr was founded by Bargujar Raja Anup Rai between 1605 and 1628. The date of foundation coincides with the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. There is a legend that Anup Rai saved the life of the emperor from a lion during a hunting expedition. Jahangir then donated the area to Anup Rai and he established the town and a fort in the region. Anupshahr flourished during the reign of King Tarasingh, the eighth generation of Raja Anup Rai and became an important centre for Ayurvedic medicine.

    Later, during the first war of Independence, Anupshahr was the scene of several uprisings. The town is also known as Choti Kashi because it is located on the banks of the river Ganga and has several temples and guest houses that are designed in a way similar to Kashi.

    Ahar is located on the banks of the river Ganga and traces its history to the Mahabharata period. There is a story in the epic which states that Duryodhana poisoned Bhima in order to kill him. He then threw Bhim into the Ganga river from where he floated to Ahar. The Nagvanshi rulers who ruled over Ahar took him out and cured him, after which Bhim returned to Hastinapur. Some coins belonging to the Nagvanshi period have been found here.
