    Sree Sita Ramachandra Swami Temple

    Sri Seeta Ramachandra Swami Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama and his consort Devi Sita. Rama is believed to be the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in the holy town of Bhadrachalam and is only 35 km away from the village of Parnasla where Lord Rama is believed to have spent some time of his exile.

    According to legends, Lord Rama crossed the river Godavari when he went to rescue Sita from Lanka. The temple is built on the banks of the river Godavari at the same place from where Rama crossed the river.

    Another legend associated with the temple is that of Kabir who was a Muslim by birth but a great devotee of Lord Rama. He was refused permission to enter the temple, and this resulted in the mysterious disappearance of the idols placed inside the temple. However, when Kabir entered the temple the idols reappeared.

    Bhadrachala Rama Temple, Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama and Devi Sita, is a popular religious spot in Bhadrachalam. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama is the seventh incarnation of Hindu god Vishnu. Devi Sita is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu’s consort, Goddess Laxmi.

    The temple is located 35 km from the town of Bhadrachalam and has idols of other Hindu gods and goddesses. Another incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Narasimha, is also worshipped at the temple along with Lord Shiva.

    The temple is immensely popular among the devotees of Lord Rama and each year the place sees a large influx of people during the time of Ram Navami. In fact, the festival of Ram Navami or Dussehra is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show at the temple. Many people throng to the temple from all over India to participate in the festivities that last for 10 days and culminate with the burning of Ravana’s effigy.

  • 03Jattayu Pakka

    Jattayu Pakka

    Jattayu Pakka is a legendary place situated at a distance of 2 km from the town of Bhadrachalam and is part of the Khamman District. The place is also popularly known as Yetapaka. According to Hindu mythology, Jattayu, who was the king of eagles, attacked King Ravana at this place when the latter abducted Devi Sita.

    Ravana was taking Sita with him in his Pushpakviman when Jattayu attacked the king on hearing the distress calls of Sita. Ravana cut off the wings of Jattayu in order to ward him off. The eagle king was fatally injured in this fierce fight.

    Jattayu lost one of his wings which fell down at Rekhapalli, a village situated about 55 km from Jattayu Pakka. Later, Lord Rama met Jattayu in his search for Sita and came to know about her abduction at the hands of Lanka king Ravana. He was moved to hear about how Jattayu tried to save Sita from the clutches of Ravana.

    Rama then touched the place where Jattayu was injured in order to heal the bird with His magical powers. Jattayu Pakka is believed to be the place where the mythical fight between Jattayu and King Ravana took place, and this place draws tourists and pilgrims from all over India.

  • 04Dummugudem


    Dummugudem is a subdivision of the Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh. The place is about 25 km from the town of Bhadrachalam. The village is actually a small island that is in the shape of the vegetable ‘karela’ or bitter gourd.

    The place has religious significance for the Hindu population of the country because it is believed to be the site where Lord Rama slayed 14,000 demons who were led by the brother duo of Khara and Dushana. The village of Dummugudem was then built over the ashes of the slain demons.

    The word ‘Dummu’ means ash in Telugu. The people of this island worship the Atmarama form of Lord Rama. The island is connected to the rest of the country by means of a very strong bridge that is at least a 100 years old. The bridge is among the two bridges that were constructed by Sir Arthur Cotton who was an English architect. The British used the bridge mainly for the purpose of transportation.

    Parnasala is a village located at a distance of 32 km from the town of Bhadrachalam. The village comes under the Dummugudem Mandal that is part of the Khammam District in the state of Andhra Pradesh. One can easily reach the village via road or boat.

    The village is a popular destination among the devotees of Lord Rama because of the legend of Rama associated with the place. It is believed that Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and brother Laxmana spent some time of his 14 year exile period in this part of the country.

    He built a hut for His wife in the jungles of Parnasala. There is a stream that runs close to the village and locals believe that Devi Sita bathed herself and washed her clothes in this stream. The proof of this legend is evident in the imprints found at the place.
