The Waghadi river is one of the most important tributaries of river Painganga, and flows through the cities of Kelapur and Yavatmal. The river, thereafter, merges into the holy river of Godavari and flows downstream, under the famous Gadge Maharaj Bridge. This tourist spot is a wonderful sight to behold nature’s beauty.

The Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary is named after river Painganga that surrounds it on three of its four sides. It is situated in the Umarkhed Tehsil of the city of Yavatmal. The sanctuary is sprawled over an area of approximately 325 sq km and has a huge variety of flora and fauna.

Amongst the flora, it has a fabulous mix of dry teak forests and southern mixed deciduous forests, while under the fauna bracket, the sanctuary is home to a host of animal species like the chinkara, the black buck, the nilgai sambar, the four horned antelope, hare, jackal, leopard, fox and many more.

Bird lovers would love the different types of birds found here like the Kite, the cuckoo, the kingfisher, the dove, the bulbul, the vulture, etc. The duration from the month of January to the month of June is the best period to explore this sanctuary.

The Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is sprawled over an area of 148 sq km. It is located in the Pandhakawada Taluka of Yavatmal. It constitutes of different floral life like the southern tropical moist mixed forests and the green pastures that consist of a hilly terrain and shrubs.

It also is home to aola, ain, teak and timber. The blue bell, the chital, the monkey, sambar, hare and the black buck are some of the many wildlife animals found here. The Summer season is the best time to visit this sanctuary. One can gain access to this sanctuary via the Yavatmal Railway Station.

Popularly known for its host of educational institutes, Yavatmal City acts as the district headquarters. Amongst the many varied colleges it is home to, Yavatmal has a physical training college, an ayurvedic college, a medical college and several polytechnic colleges.
