Well, Khajjiar is a hill station in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh which bears a very striking resemblance to Switzerland's topography, the well known romanticizing location. Khajjiar has a rare combination of three ecosystems : lake , pasture and forest.

In the lap of Himalayas, at 2000 metres above sea level lies the exquisite glade of Khajjiar with a circumference of around 5 km. The Mini Switzerland!

Khajjiar is known to be among the 160 locations in the world that bear striking resemblance with Switzerland. One can also find a sign board on Khajjiar on which the distance to Switzerland is written! Beautiful panaromic view of the dense green forests, vast and undulating meadows and snowy white peaks of Himalayas are sure to leave you spellbound here. A stroll around the lake and through the thick pine forests is a very compelling attribute here. Khajjiar is undoubtedly one of the best hill stations in India!

Dauladhar mountains

Khajjiar is situated at the base of the Dauladhar mountains which is characterised by dense forests of deodar and pine and lush green meadows. The panoramic view of the mountains is sure to make your heart skip a beat!

Khajjiar Lake

Who can forget the exotic locale of Khajjiar lake featured in the Shahrukh Khan and Kajol starrer 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' ? It is a small lake surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadows and a floating island.

Khajjinag temple

Khajjinag temple is a 12th century temple located near to the lake. The sanctum of the temple has been beautifully carved from wood. One can also see the images of the Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas hanging from the roof of the circumambulatory path in the mandapa of the temple.

Golden Devi Temple

Golden devi temple is situated on the edge of the Khajjiar lake. The golden spire in the temple attracts many tourists here.

Panch Pandav Tree

The Panch Pandav Tree is a very popular tree located in the ground of Khajjiar and famous for its shoots. There are a total of 6 shoots coming out of the tree. Local legend is that the six shoots stands for the five Pandavas and Draupadi.

The elegant Khajjiar villages

Khajjiar has small and beautiful villages like Rota and Ladi which are quite popular for the Apple orchards. The spectacular beauty of these villages situated in the slopes is sure to allure you.

Khajjiar also has a wildlife sanctuary named Kalatop which is inhabited by species like deer, serow, jackal, leopard, black bear, wild cats, Himalayan black marten among the others. Khajjiar also offers numerous trekking opportunities with excellent views and beautiful camp-sites. The hill station would be laden with beautiful flowers during the Summer which makes it one of the Wonder Places of India.

How to reach : Khajjiar is connected by road and is 23 km from Dalhousie and 26 km from Chamba. The closest railhead is at Pathankot, 120 km. The airport at Gaggal in Kangra is at a distance of 180 km. Taxis and buses are available from all these places.
