Thirunelveli is known for its halwa. The halwa was introduced to Tamil Nadu by a family who migrated to the place from North India.
Since the halwa tasted best when prepared using the water from the river Tamirabarani, they started their business selling this special halwa. The Iruttukadai Halwa shop popularised the halwa. The shop is located close to Nellaiyappar temple.
