Chennai Metro Phase II Project is Progressing

Officials informed the Chief Minister that work on the Phase II project is progressing across different corridors. The project aims to improve connectivity between several key parts of Chennai and reduce traffic congestion. The new network will include modern driverless trains equipped with advanced signalling and safety systems, allowing trains to operate without onboard drivers while ensuring safe and efficient services.

During the review, Vijay examined the progress of stations, tracks, depots and other infrastructure works. He instructed officials to speed up construction while maintaining high quality and safety standards. He also stressed the need to complete the project within the planned timeline so that people can benefit from faster and more reliable public transport.

The Chief Minister also reviewed preparations for introducing driverless train operations, which will be a major milestone for Chennai Metro. The new trains will use advanced automation technology to improve operational efficiency, reduce travel time and provide passengers with a comfortable travel experience. Before commercial operations begin, the trains will undergo extensive testing and safety checks.

Chennai Metro Phase II is one of the city's biggest infrastructure projects and is expected to significantly expand the metro network. Once completed, it will improve connectivity to residential areas, business hubs and other important locations, making daily travel easier for thousands of commuters. The project is also expected to encourage more people to use public transport, helping reduce road traffic and pollution across the city.
