'Baba' Jaswant Singh war memorial
The unusual: A war memorial revered like a temple
This one is not really a temple but is revered as a temple by soldiers of the Indian army. Every morning bed tea is served to the Baba at 4.30 am, breakfast at 0900 hrs and dinner at 1900 hrs. His shoes are polished everyday, bed is made and mail addressed to the Baba is delivered. Any man would love to be in the Baba's shoes except for the fact that the 'Baba' is not there. He has been dead for the last 52 years. This is a war memorial enroute to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh ,built in the memory of rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, Maha Vir Chakra, of 4 Garhwal Rifles who became a martyr during the Sino-Indian war of 1962.
