Kerala continues to receive heavy rainfall, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for nine districts on August 5. The alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Alappuzha, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely. The remaining districts
are under a Yellow Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places.
Kerala Under Orange Alert Today
According to the IMD, several parts of Kerala may receive very heavy rainfall, with isolated areas likely to record between 12 cm and 20 cm of rain within 24 hours. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may also accompany the showers in many places. The weather department has advised people to remain alert, especially those living in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
The continued rainfall has increased the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, overflowing rivers and landslides, particularly in the hilly districts. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially through mountain roads, and to stay away from rivers, streams and other water bodies. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough weather conditions.
District administrations and disaster management teams have been placed on high alert to handle any emergency. People have been asked to closely follow official weather updates and safety instructions issued by the IMD and local authorities.
The IMD has stated that heavy rain is likely to continue in Kerala over the next few days as the southwest monsoon remains active. Residents are advised to take all necessary precautions, secure essential supplies and avoid risky activities until the weather improves. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and issue further alerts if required.
