Dhosi Hill Fort

Dhosi Hill Fort is located in the Mahendragarh district of Haryana atop Dhosi Hill and is surrounded by beautiful farms and colourful fields. The speciality of this fort is that it is settled on the top of Dhosi Hill which is an extinct volcano now.

Dhosi Hill Fort was built several centuries ago during the reign of Suri dynasty under the command of Hemu, who was the chief minister of the Suri king, Adil Shah Suri. With 40-feet-wide and 25-feet-high walls, Dhosi Hill Fort was one of the strongest forts in India, which was made to protect the Hindu ashrams and heritage buildings from the attacks of Muslim rulers.

Built during the 14th century, Firoz Shah Palace Complex was a fortified settlement which included the original town of Hisar. It was constructed by Firoz Shah Tughlaq on a raised platform and is surrounded by a massive moat. Being a complex, it houses several palaces, such as Gujri Mahal, a few religious sites, such as Lat Ki Masjid and a museum, which is currently under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India.

Apart from all these, you can also visit Ashokan Pillar, Hammam, Royal Palace, Diwan-e-Khas and several other gates inside Firoz Shah Palace Complex. Being located in the Hisar district, it is easily accessible by road.

One of the prominent places to visit in Kaithal, Kaithal Fort has gone through several renovations before ending up with the shape of the current building. Being destroyed several times during attacks and wars, the present building is no more a cent per cent original structure.

Kaithal Fort is said to have been built by the royal family of Kaithal during the 18th century. However, later on it became the possession of the British Empire who controlled the entry of goods and other items in the city.

Asigarh is one of the most famous forts in the state of Haryana and hence, it is visited by thousands of tourists and history lovers every year. Located in the Hisar district at Hansi, Asigarh Fort is settled peacefully on the banks of Amti Lake and therefore, the top of the fort provides its visitors with the panoramic views of the town and the picturesque lake.

It is said to have been built for Prithviraj Chauhan, the king of Ajmer and Delhi, during the 12th century. It is also considered as one of the strongest and impregnable forts in India. Madhogarh Fort is situated in the Mahendragarh district atop Madhogarh Hill and was built during the rule of a Jaipur king, Madho Singh. Even though it is not as popular as other forts in the list, it is still visited by several local tourists.

Located at Raipur Rani in the Panchkula district, Raipur Rani Fort was built in-between 17th and 18th centuries by a Chauhan king of Ajmer, who ruled the town till India's independence. There is a beautiful gurudwara located inside the fort which is visited by locals on a regular basis. Even though the fort is in dilapidated condition, it is still one of the prime attractions in the region for history lovers.

Another fort from the time of Chauhan king, Prithviraj Chauhan, Tosham Fort is located atop Tosham Hill in the Bhiwani district. It is a perfect weekend destination in the region if you are looking to explore the history of the town. As the major portion of the fort was destroyed during an aircraft crash, you can only find a few remnants of the fort today.
