Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Toy Train in Darjeeling, West Bengal, was inaugurated way back in the 1800s. Today, its one of the only mini-railway facilities available in India. While scheduled services regularly operate, joyrides are also in the offering and the sights along the way are awe-inspiring! A trip to Darjeeling would be incomplete without a ride on the Toy Train. The Toy Train is also featured in many Bollywood movies such as Parineeta and Barfi! The journey takes you through some of the most scenic places that you will ever see.

The toy train ride from Kalka to Shimla has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is popular among tourists coming here. The journey falls against the backdrop of the Shivalik Range and offers passengers a picturesque view of the region. It takes you through various tunnels and over many bridges, making this ride absolutely entertaining. The train was started by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon in the year 1903 and is to date one of the most preferred modes of transport among the visitors here.

Nilgiri Mountain Railway
The journey on a toy train from Metupalyam to Ooty is another amazing travel you must undertake. As the train passes through several tunnels and bridges, it offers a beautiful view of the green hills and the lush tea estates. A unique feature of this charming ride is that the train travels at a mellow pace, allowing travellers to even hop off and hop back on in certain parts! It is a perfect ride to take if you are travelling with children as they are sure to enjoy the journey a lot.

Matheran Hill Railway
Another toy train ride that a traveller is sure to enjoy is the one between Neral to Matheran that covers a distance of 10.7 km. The narrow gauge line passes through forests and tunnels offering passengers a scenic view of the hill station. The Matheran Hill Railway is a heritage train and ensures that the trip is memorable for everyone. Built in the year 1907 by Abdul Hussein Adamjee Peerbhoy, this train still holds the grandeur of the bygone days.
