Spiritual Saran

Saran is one of the lesser known tourist destinations located in the state of Bihar. This quite village is known for the temples of Goddess Kali and Lord Shiva that are located here. Tourists coming here can enjoy the history, religious and architectural spots that it has to offer.

A visit to Sonepur is a must if one is visiting in the month of November as the village comes alive to host the it's cattle fair which is internationally and nationally acclaimed. Here are a few places of tourist interest taht one should visit when they come to Saran.

Dhorh Ashram

Dhorh Ashram, an archaeological tourist destination, is located in the north of Parsagarh. It is famous for the historic Bhagwan Dhadheswar Temple which is situated on the banks of the river Gandaki. The highlight of the temple is Lord Shiva's Lingam. Devotees come here to pay respect.

Silhauri

Silhauri is a sacred place located in Saran. Shivratri is celebrated here with a lot of pomp and a huge mela is organised during the festival. Visitors are taken to a completely new high in this festival. One can learn the traditions of the people here and also shop for momentos while here.

Sonepur

Sonepur, also known as Subarnapur, is one of the popular tourist destination in Bihar. The Cattle Fair or Malegaon Mela, as it is locally called, is highly popular and is held in the month of November during the Kartik Purnima, the Full Moon night, and the celebrations lasts for a fortnight. The temples of Goddess Kali and Lord Shiva also attracts a lot tourists here.

Aami

Aami is located 4km from the west of Dhighwara and 26 km from Chappra. It is popular for the Durga temples here and many a pilgrims come here to pay homage to Goddess Durga. A speciality of this town is that it has a deep and broad well located in garden and this well is said to have never dried up.

Gautam Asthan

Gautam Asthan is the ashram of Gautam Risihi and is situated 5 km from Chappra. Rumour has it that the sage in his wrath cursed his wife who then transformed into a stone. Tourists come here visit the ashram of the sage.

How to Reach

One can reach Saran from Gaya International Airport at Gaya which is about 174km and the airport at Ranchi which is at a distance of 164 kms. Both of these airports are well connected to all the major cities. The nearest railway station is at Deoghar which lies 22 km away. One can avail local buses to reach Saran from here.
