Sree Dharma Sastha Temple in Sabarimala is situated in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. It is visited by millions of devotees during Mandalapooja, Makaravilakku and Chitra Vishu. Mini Sabarimala in Mumbai is equally renowned and has gathered importance among the devotees of Lord Ayyappa. Situated at Kanjur Marg (West), this temple is perched by a hillock and complemented with magnificent scenic views.

The temple was earlier into ruins and had encountered lots of destructions. But in 1960, the temple was reconstructed and Shri Ganesha temple and Devi Bhuvaneshvari was constructed to its right and left respectively. Renowned priests and tantric scholars were brought from Kerala to perform the poojas and homams.

Apart from the birthday of Shree Ayyappa which is known as "Pankuni Uttiram", almost all the Hindu festivals are celebrated here, Onam, Ganesh chathurthi, Vijaya Dashami, Deepawali to name a few. Mandala Makara Vilakku Festival is the most important festival celebrated here. It starts by mid November and ends by mid January. These festivals are gloriously celebrated along with cultural and musical functions.

How to Reach

Mini Sabarimala is 9 km from Mumbai Airport. Travellers can avail bus or taxi services from the airport to reach this religious spot. Bus services are available from each corner of the state to Kanjur. If one is travelling from Bangalore, buses are available from Indian Express Bus Stop in Vasanth Nagar to the holy temple.

If one is travelling by train, he can get down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and head towards the temple which is around 29 km from Mini Sabarimala. Kanjurmarg Railway Station though nearer does not have access to trains to far off places.

What to See

Kanjurmarg lies in the suburbs of east central Mumbai. It does not harbour much tourist potential apart from Mini Sabarimala, for which millions of devotees are seen here round the year. Quite a few malls and restaurants are found here which can entertain the guests apart from visiting the holy abode of Lord Ayyappa. Tourists planning to stay here for few more days can also pay a visit to other sight seeings of Mumbai.
