International Tiger Day was established in 2010 to raise awareness about tiger conservation and also to celebrate the immense contributions made by volunteers in the field of tiger conservation.
Approximately 3,900 tigers are remaining in the whole world out of which, India is home to 70% of the World's tiger population. According to the tiger census, India has approximately 2,960 tigers. Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve is one of the largest Tiger reserves in India established in 1983 having an area of 3,728 square kilometers spread over 5 districts in Andra Pradesh including Mahabub Nagar district, Guntur District, Prakasam District, Nalgonda District, and Kurnool District. The landscape consists of rolling hills with small valleys and large patches of evergreen forests.
It is one of the most important sanctuaries for tiger conservation in India due to its high frequency of sightings by wildlife enthusiasts, including international guests who come here to see the tigers in their natural habitat. The reserve hosts many other species including elephants, gaur, sambhar, sloth bears, and vultures with rich flora and fauna.

The Bandipur Tiger Reserve consists mostly of dense forests with enormous trees that grow up to 30 m tall. Several rivers and streams flow through the forested areas. There are over 360 species of trees and plants within the forested areas of Bandipur Tiger Reserve including teak, sal (Shorea robusta), banyan, coconut palms (Cocos nucifera), and neem (Azadirachta indica).
