The Southern Railway will operate two special trains from Chennai to Podanur and Tenkasi to manage the expected increase in passenger demand during the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival.
Vinayaka Chaturthi Special Trains from Chennai
The first special train will operate between Chennai Central and Podanur. It will leave Chennai Central at 11.50 pm on September 11 and reach Podanur at 9 am the following day. The return service will leave Podanur at 11.30 pm on September 14 and arrive at Chennai Central at 9.25 am.
The second special train will run between Tambaram and Tenkasi. It will depart from Tambaram at 7.30 pm on September 11 and reach Tenkasi at 6.15 am on September 12. For the return journey, the train will originate from Sengottai at 3 pm on September 14 and reach Tambaram at 3.20 am on September 15.
The Tambaram-Tenkasi special train will stop at several stations along the route, including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Tiruchy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Srivilliputhur, Rajapalayam, Sankarankovil and Kadayanallur. The train will also stop at Tenkasi.
How will these Additional Train Services Benefit Passengers?
Both special train services will operate for one trip in each direction. The services have been introduced to provide additional travel options for passengers during the Vinayaka Chaturthi period. Passengers planning to use these special trains can make reservations; bookings will open at 8 am on September 10.
The additional trains are expected to help passengers travelling from Chennai towards western and southern parts of Tamil Nadu during the festival. With more people expected to travel for Vinayaka Chaturthi, the special services will provide extra capacity and make travel more convenient.
