Pune Metro will extend its operating hours by three hours beyond its usual time, until 2 am from September 17 to September 24 during Ganeshotsav to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic. The extended service will help devotees travelling across the city to visit Ganesh mandals during the festival.
Pune Metro's Extended Operations during Ganeshotsav
Maha Metro announced the special schedule on Wednesday. Before the extended services begin, trains will operate on their regular timetable from 6 am to 11 pm on September 14, 15 and 16. From September 17, the Metro will continue running until 2 am. On the final day of Ganeshotsav, September 25, extended Metro services will be available on both routes.
To handle the expected rush, trains will operate at five-minute intervals during peak hours. Maha Metro will also deploy additional staff at all stations during the extended operating period to manage the increased passenger numbers and ensure smoother movement.
Special arrangements have been made at Mandai station for crowd management. Passengers entering the station will have to use the gate facing Mandai near the Lokmanya Tilak statue, and the exit will be through the station gate towards Shivaji Road.
Advisory for Passengers
Passengers have been advised to use alternative Metro stations to reach major Ganesh mandals and avoid overcrowding at Mandai station. The recommended stations are Kasba Peth, PMC, Deccan Gymkhana and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Garden. Using these stations is also expected to help reduce congestion at the Civil Court interchange station.
Maha Metro said these measures are intended to ensure smoother movement of devotees and manage the heavy passenger footfall expected during the eight days of extended Metro operations.
