When is Kajli Teej Celebrated?

Kajli Teej is observed on the third day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Bhadrapada. This usually falls in August or September. The festival takes place fifteen days after Hariyali Teej and three days after Raksha Bandhan.

Significance of Kajli Teej

Kajli Teej holds great cultural and religious significance. It celebrates the bond between husband and wife and promotes marital harmony. The festival also aligns with the monsoon season, symbolizing fertility and renewal. By participating in the rituals and fasting, women seek blessings for a happy and prosperous married life.

Rituals and Traditions

1. Fasting:

On Kajli Teej, married women observe a day-long fast, often without food or water (known as nirjala vrat). This act of devotion is a way for women to show their commitment to their husbands' well-being. Some women break their fast only after sighting the moon or completing evening rituals.

2. Worship:

Women worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva on this day. They offer flowers, fruits, and sweets while reciting prayers and mantras dedicated to the divine couple. In certain regions, women also worship neem trees or perform rituals under a neem tree, which is considered sacred.

4. Singing and Dancing:

The festival is celebrated with singing traditional folk songs and dancing. Women come together to sing songs that celebrate marital happiness and the monsoon season. These gatherings create a sense of community and shared joy.

Date and Venue:

The celebration will take place from August 22nd to 23rd, 2024, featuring a festive procession starting at 5 pm from Ramprakash Talkies to Kumbha Stadium, followed by a lively fair continuing until September 5th, 2024.

Kajli Teej is a vibrant festival that showcases traditional customs, devotion, and the joy of community celebrations. Whether through fasting, worship, or festive activities, the festival is a beautiful expression of love and cultural heritage.
