How to Plan Your Trip to India

By Siji

India is undoubtedly one of the most sought after destinations in the world. The charm of the country has managed to keep travellers flocking in throughout the year.

When you are visiting India for the first time, there are few things you could do better or right with a little planning. It is quite natural to feel confused as to where to start when you plan a trip. Here are a few tips that could guide you while you plan your first trip to India.

How to Plan Your Trip to India

1. Medical Checkup
It is mandatory for a new traveller to go through a medical checkup to make sure he is fit to travel to India. Travelling to the country in monsoon is risky too. So be sure you're healthy and can enjoy the trip in its true sense.

2. Where to Visit
This one purely depends on your interests and the time. Since India is vast, it has everything raging from Kashmir which has been called the 'heaven on earth' to the sensual sculptures of Khajuraho temples. From adventure to pilgrimage, India has it all. It is better to have a planned list of the places you would love to visit in your defined time frame.

3. What to Pack
While travelling to India, one should be careful while packing clothes as India has a relatively conservative outlook. Some people prefer to get clothes from home and some buy the clothes available in India. Don't forget to pack your medicines and other personal items that you may need during your travel.

4. Know More About the Culture
India is known for its rich and varied culture. It is good if you can have a fair knowledge on the culture of the places you wish you travel in India before starting off.

5. Trains, Flights and Accommodation
It is always better to plan well in advance. Book the train journeys well in advance if you need them. This could save you a lot of money and also avoid the confusion of the ticket availability. Do adequate research before booking a hotel that is suitable to your needs.

6. Get Your Visa
Every foreign traveller needs a visa to travel to India. This is not applicable to those who travel from Nepal or Bhutan. Get a Transit visa (if you do not intend to stay beyond 72 hours in India) or an Indian Tourist visa.
