Bengaluru's much-awaited Pink Line, connecting Kalena Agrahara with Tavarekere on Bannerghatta Road, is expected to open for passengers by mid-October, as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certificate for the signalling system, marking an important step towards starting operations.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line to Open by mid-October
The elevated section of the Pink Line is 7.5 km long and has six stations, including the Jayadeva Hospital station, where passengers can interchange with the Yellow Line. The corridor is part of the larger 21.26-km Pink Line, which will eventually connect Kalena Agrahara with Nagawara.
The opening of the elevated stretch has been delayed several times due to pending testing, safety approvals, and other regulatory procedures. ISA certification was one of the key requirements before the line could move toward final safety clearance.
Bengaluru Metro to Complete the Remaining Works
BMRCL now has to complete the remaining mandatory procedures before commercial services can begin. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection and other required approvals are important steps in this process. Recent reports said that rolling stock approval from the Railway Board was also pending before the corridor could be cleared for operations.
Most of the civil construction, track work and station-related works on the elevated section have already been completed. Six trainsets have also been delivered for the corridor. Earlier testing included oscillation trials and Emergency Braking Distance tests conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation.
How will Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line Benefit Passengers?
Once opened, the Pink Line's elevated section will improve Metro connectivity along Bannerghatta Road and provide an interchange with the Yellow Line at Jayadeva Hospital. The remaining underground section between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is still under construction and is expected to open later.
The latest developments indicate that BMRCL is working towards opening the Bannerghatta Road section by mid-October, subject to completion of the remaining statutory approvals and safety procedures.
