Medaram Jathara 2024, held in the quaint village of Medaram in Telangana's Mulugu district, unfolds the gripping saga of Sammakka and Saralamma, tribal goddesses who stood against the Kakatiya rulers. This grand celebration, occurring every two years, marks one of Asia's largest tribal festivals, drawing millions from diverse corners, including international devotees. The festival, spanning four days from February 21 to February 24, 2024, brings forth a rich display of rituals, cultural performances, and tributes to the revered goddesses, embodying Telangana's resilient tribal heritage.

The Tale of Sammakka and Saralamma: A Chronicle of Courage and Sacrifice
The narrative traces back to the 13th century, where Sammakka, discovered as a newborn surrounded by tigers, defied oppression. Adopted by a tribal chief, she married Pagididda Raju, the Koya leader, and bore two daughters, Saralamma and Nagulamma, and a son, Jampanna. When Kakatiya king Prataprudra imposed heavy taxes, the duo rebelled. In the fierce battle, Saralamma fell, and Sammakka vanished into the hills. The tribals believe she transformed into a vermillion casket, visiting them during the Medaram Jathara.
