Madras Motor Sports Club is the biggest international racing circuit in India. Founded in 1952, it hosts 14 bike and car racing events throughout the year. The club was initiated by Rex Strong and K Vargunis. The first racing event of the club was organised in 1953 at the Sholavaram airstrip. Later in 1957 the All India Race meet took place on the same track.
Irungattukotai, another race track of the club, was inaugurated in 1990. They have gained the permission to organise Formula III racing. A dirt track is another attraction of the club which holds auto cross events. The races organised are of international standards; hence, many tourists are attracted during the prime racing season.
