  • 01Tara Devi Temple

    Tara Devi Temple, located at a distance of around 11 km from Shimla, is one of the popular religious centres in Shoghi. Devoted to Goddess Tara, this temple is situated on the Tara Parvat or mountain. An important goddess for Tibetan Buddhists, Goddess Tara is counted among one of the nine sisters of the Hindu Goddess of feminine empowerment, Durga.

    It is believed that this temple is around 250 years old and that the statue of the goddess was brought here by a King of the Sen Dynasty from West Bengal. The wooden statue of Goddess Tara is installed in the temple according to the Vaishnav tradition. During the Hindu festival of Sharad Navratri, a special ‘pooja’ or prayer is organised in the premises of the temple.

    Kali Temple, located at an elevation of 8500 ft above sea level, is one of the important temples in Shoghi. Believed to be more than 150 years old, this temple has statues of the Hindu Goddess of time and change; Kali, Shyamala, an incarnation of Kali, and Chandi; the manifestation of Shakti, the symbol of power.

    All the three goddesses are different forms of the Hindu Goddess of feminine empowerment, Durga. During festivals, devotees visit this temple in large numbers to offer their prayers.
