Congress leader Yuri Alemao claims the festival will disrupt the region's peace and tranquility. Many locals, social workers, and activists have voiced their opposition to the electronic dance music event scheduled from December 28 to December 30.
Alemao stated, "After converting North Goa into a drug and crime hub, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte are now setting their evil eye on South Goa." Concerns about traffic congestion and inconvenience for locals have also been raised.
Economic Impact
Despite opposition, hoteliers and restauranteurs welcome the festival for its economic benefits. Sanjay Amonkar, director general of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted that Sunburn significantly boosted North Goa's tourism economy.
