Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated on Tuesday, January 20, that the state government is in regular discussions with the Union government to get approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II. He said the state is actively working with the Centre and taking all necessary steps to move the project forward.

Hyderabad Metro Phase II
The Chief Minister referred to his recent meeting with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, during which the Metro Phase II proposal was discussed. He explained that the Telangana government is completing all actions required from its side to ensure early approval of the project.
Responding to a letter from Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, CM Revanth Reddy listed the steps already taken by the state government. Kishan Reddy had mentioned that Telangana was yet to nominate two officials to a Joint Committee formed for Metro Phase II, which would also include two officials from the Union government. In reply, the Chief Minister clarified that details about the committee members from the state side have already been shared with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Revanth Reddy stressed that the state government is continuously coordinating with the Centre for approval of Metro Phase II. He also requested Kishan Reddy to help speed up the long-pending approval process in the interest of the city.
Earlier, Kishan Reddy had written to the Chief Minister asking the state government to take over Hyderabad Metro Phase I from Larsen and Toubro. He said this step is necessary before Phase II can begin, as the Union government is ready to work jointly with the state on the next phase.
Takeover of Phase I Metro
He urged the Telangana government to complete the takeover of Phase I quickly and submit the required proposals for Phase II. Kishan Reddy also expressed concern over delays in the process. He said the Union government has already given in-principle approval for Phase II, on the condition that Phase I is taken over first and coordination starts through the Joint Committee. He again requested the nomination of state officials so that Metro expansion can move ahead without further delay for the benefit of Hyderabad's residents.
