Indian Railways has approved a new tri-weekly Express train connecting Machilipatnam and Kurnool via Vijayawada, aiming to provide an additional rail connection between coastal and central parts of Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry announced the development on Monday.
Tri-Weekly Express Train to Connect Machilipatnam and Kurnool
The 499-km train service is expected to benefit passengers from several places along the route. These include Gudivada, Vijayawada, Narasaraopet, Vinukonda, Markapur Road, Giddalur and Nandyal, among other areas.
The new Machilipatnam-Kurnool City train will begin its journey from Machilipatnam at 4.55 pm and arrive at Kurnool at 5.45 am the following day. On the return journey, the train will depart from Kurnool at 9.30 am and reach Machilipatnam at 9.35 pm.
The service will run three times a week from Machilipatnam on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. In the opposite direction, the return service from Kurnool will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
The new train is expected to make rail travel more convenient for people travelling between different parts of Andhra Pradesh. The additional connection will be particularly useful for passengers travelling to Vijayawada and other important towns located along the route.
Balashowry thanked the Union Railway Ministry for approving the new train service. He said the improved rail connectivity would help passengers travelling for education, healthcare and employment.
The MP also said that he would continue working to improve railway infrastructure and passenger amenities in the Machilipatnam Parliamentary constituency.
With the introduction of the new service, passengers in the coastal and central regions of Andhra Pradesh will have another option for travelling between Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool. The tri-weekly operation is expected to provide additional connectivity for passengers travelling for various purposes across the 499-km route.
