Gurugram's Sector 5 Metro Station Set to Transform Connectivity with Dual Lines and Enhanced Integration

The upcoming Sector 5 Metro station in Gurugram is planned to become a major transport hub, connecting the Gurugram railway station with the Bhondsi and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) corridors. Officials stated the station will have two metro lines, one elevated and one at a lower level, designed to share

a common platform for easy passenger transfers. The project is still in the planning and design stages and aims to offer smooth connectivity across the city.

Earlier Plans Upcoming Gurugram Metro

Earlier plans included building a skywalk with escalators linking the Sector 5 station to the railway station. However, in November last year, the state government decided to replace this idea with a dedicated spur line for better integration and convenience.

Approval of Gurugram's Sector 5 Metro Station

According to a senior official from the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), the cost of building the Sector 5 station is relatively high, so approval from the Central government is required. To support this, a supplementary Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared. Moreover, a Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) official stated that in Phase 1, civil construction is ongoing between Millennium City Centre and Sector 9, while in Phase 2, the structural designs are being finalized for the stretch from Sector 9 to Cyber City.

Gurugram Metro Connectivity to Enhance Travel

The official also explained that the Sector 5 station took the longest to plan due to its technical challenges. The narrow roads and their complex design as a junction for two lines made planning difficult. Construction can begin only after the implementing agency for the Railway Station-Bhondsi corridor is chosen. Several agencies have submitted bids, and the selection process is expected to take six to seven months. Once finalized, the Sector 5 station will play a key role in improving Gurugram's metro connectivity.
