Rainfall Alert in Delhi

The sudden change in weather came after an extremely hot day, with temperatures exceeding 43 degrees Celsius in many areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar weather conditions may continue on Wednesday. The weather department has issued an orange alert for Thursday, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. A yellow alert remains in place for Friday, with forecasts suggesting further relief from the heat over the next few days.

Delhi's Weather

Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi recorded one of its hottest days of the season. The minimum temperature was 29.2 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal, while the maximum reached 43.5 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory. The Ridge area recorded an even higher temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius. The combination of intense sunshine and high humidity made outdoor conditions very uncomfortable throughout the day. Although light rain arrived later at night, it came only after residents had endured several hours of extreme heat. Meteorologists attributed the weather change to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea interacting with a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan.

A major dust storm also hit Delhi between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Tuesday. Wind speeds varied across the city, ranging from 13 kmph in Mayur Vihar to an impressive 120 kmph in Palam. Weather officials described the storm in Palam as one of the strongest recorded there in nearly 25 years. Strong winds were also reported in Pusa, Safdarjung, and Jafarpur. Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rainfall, which are expected to gradually reduce temperatures and provide continued relief from the recent heatwave-like conditions.
