The Maha Metro has given the green light for a new flyover at Vishrantwadi Chowk, connecting Airport Road with Alandi Road. This decision follows a detailed joint inspection to ensure that the flyover and the planned Metro line can coexist without design conflicts, as reported by mypunepulse.com. While work on the flyover has started, the Metro line is still under study.

Addressing Traffic Congestion
In addition to the Vishrantwadi Chowk project, the municipal corporation is also working on a flyover and subway at Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk in Vishrantwadi to ease traffic congestion. These projects were initiated before the Lok Sabha elections, with plans for a metro line passing through the chowk.
Former Deputy Mayor Dr. Siddharth Dhende and ex-Corporator Anil Tingre had previously raised concerns about potential design clashes between the flyover, subway, and Metro project during a Pune Municipal Corporation meeting. To address these issues, a meeting was held with Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol to resolve any conflicts.
Ensuring Seamless Integration
Construction on the flyover was temporarily halted pending a joint inspection by Maha Metro and PMC. Following this inspection, it was confirmed that the Metro line could be integrated without disrupting the flyover project. The PMC has successfully implemented similar measures for Metro pillars in another flyover project on Sinhagad Road.
Srinivas Bonala, Chief Engineer of the Project Department, stated, "The municipal corporation had MahaMetro review the flyover plan for Vishrantwadi Chowk. MahaMetro has confirmed that the flyover and subway will not obstruct the Metro project."
Previous Successful Integrations
The Vishrantwadi Chowk flyover will be the second instance where civic administration has seamlessly integrated a Metro line into its design structure. This follows successful integration measures implemented for Metro pillars in another flyover project on Sinhagad Road.
The groundwork for these projects began before the Lok Sabha elections, with plans for a metro line passing through Vishrantwadi Chowk. The municipal corporation's efforts aim to alleviate traffic congestion while ensuring that infrastructure projects do not conflict with each other.
This development marks another step towards improving Pune's infrastructure while addressing traffic woes effectively. The collaboration between Maha Metro and PMC highlights their commitment to creating harmonious urban transport solutions.
