Velankanni Special Trains: Southern Railways has Announced Special Services to Handle the Passenger Rush

Southern Railway's Tiruchirapalli Division has announced special train services between Tambaram and Velankanni to manage the expected rush during the upcoming Velankanni Festival. These services will provide passengers a convenient travel option to attend the annual religious celebrations.

Velankanni Special Trains

Train No. 06037, the Tambaram-Velankanni Weekly Express Special, will operate on August 24 and 31 and September 7. The train will depart from Tambaram at 11.50 pm and reach Velankanni at 7.45 am the following morning. This service is expected to be useful for passengers travelling from Chennai and nearby areas.

For the return journey, Train No. 06038 will run from Velankanni to Tambaram on August 26, September 2 and September 9. It will leave Velankanni at 12.45 am and reach Tambaram at 7.30 am the next day.

Train Coaches and Stoppages

The special trains will have 21 passenger coaches, including eight sleeper class coaches and 11 second-class coaches. Two luggage-cum-brake vans with facilities for Divyangjan passengers will also be attached to the trains.
The trains will stop at several important stations along the route. These include Chengalpet, Villupuram, Cuddalore Port, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Nagore and Nagapattinam. These stops will allow passengers from different parts of Tamil Nadu to use the special services.

Passengers planning to attend the festival can use these services to travel between Tambaram and Velankanni. They are advised to check the latest railway schedules and ticket availability before travelling, as timings and services may be subject to change.
