Maha Metro Survey Reveals 30% of Pune Commuters Rely on Feeder Services for Last-Mile Connectivity

A recent survey by Maha Metro found that nearly 30% of metro commuters in Pune use feeder services like PMPML buses and autorickshaws to reach or leave metro stations. However, regular passengers feel that these services could become much more popular if the authorities improve planning and frequency.

Average Daily Ridership in Pune Metro

Currently, 30 metro stations are operating on two routes, and the average daily ridership is around 2 lakh passengers. The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) runs feeder buses from major stations and has modified a few routes to make travel easier. Despite this, commuters say the bus frequency is low, especially during peak hours. One resident said PMPML should introduce new routes within a 3 km radius of key stations and increase bus service during busy times.

Usage of Feeder Services

A Maha Metro official confirmed that continuous surveys are being conducted to understand last-mile connectivity issues. Around 28 to 30% of passengers currently use feeder services. The official added that Maha Metro is working closely with PMPML to enhance these connections. Plans are also in progress to improve autorickshaw services, with discussions expected soon between Maha Metro, traffic police, and the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Commuters' Opinions

Regular commuters shared their experiences. Ashish Bapat, who travels from Garware College station, said feeder buses only run towards Kothrud or Deccan Gymkhana. He suggested extending services to Shastri Road, Prabhat Road, and Bhandarkar Road. Another commuter, Pratiksha Joshi, pointed out that many auto drivers overcharge and don't follow the fare chart. Both passengers suggested starting shared auto services from more metro stations, at least on a trial basis, to make last-mile travel smoother and more affordable for everyone.
