The Indian government has announced a big plan to make 260 new Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets to improve long-distance rail travel across the country with better comfort, safety, and modern features compared to existing trains, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Lok Sabha.

Stages of Building Trainsets
These new trainsets are being built in stages. First, prototypes will be developed and tested to make sure everything works properly. The trainsets will be made in larger numbers and slowly introduced into regular passenger service after testing & successful trials. This phased approach is meant to ensure that the trains are safe and ready before running on busy routes.
Companies to Manufacture Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches
The manufacturing programme is being done with the help of BEML and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, along with other technology partners. These organisations will work together to produce the sleeper coaches and make sure they meet the necessary standards. These Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets are designed for long-distance travel. They are expected to run at high speeds, with a design speed of 180 km/h and an operating speed of about 160 km/h, helping reduce overall journey times once deployed.
Vande Bharat's Advanced Features
The trains will include advanced safety systems such as anti-climbers, modern couplers, and the KAVACH train protection system. They will also have fire safety systems, CCTV cameras in all coaches, automatic plug doors, and air-conditioned coaches with UV-C disinfection to keep the air clean. Features for people with disabilities and emergency communication systems will also be included, making travel safer and more comfortable. This plan aims to bring a new generation of high-speed sleeper Vande Bharat trains to Indian Railways. The rollout will be gradual, ensuring safety and readiness as these modern trainsets begin service across the country.
