The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced planned power cuts on January 6, 2026, affecting over 250 areas across the state. These electricity outages are due to maintenance work on the power network, and they will occur in many parts of Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and other districts.

List of Areas to be Affected in Chennai
In Chennai, several neighbourhoods will face supply interruptions at various times. Areas such as Alamathy, Red Hills Road, Mogappair, Tiruvanmiyur, Velachery, and other surrounding localities are included in the schedule. Residents in these parts should be aware of possible outages during the day.
List of Areas to be Affected in Coimbatore
In Coimbatore, power will be cut in many zones between approximately 9 am and 6 pm. Locations such as Periyanaickenpalayam, Veerapandi, Sengalipalayam, Maniyakar, Kalampalayam, and several nearby villages are set to experience interruptions as part of the maintenance activity.
List of Other Areas to be Affected
Other affected areas across the state include parts of Trichy, Erode, Karur, Vellore, and more, with power supply likely to be stopped at different times during the day in these districts as well. Specific timings and lists have been released to help people prepare ahead.
Maintenance Activities
Such planned outages are common when the power company needs to work on improving or repairing electrical infrastructure. These maintenance activities are important for keeping the grid stable and preventing more serious breakdowns in the future. People living in affected areas are advised to plan their day around the scheduled outages and keep essentials like lights and appliances in mind.
Moreover, while the power cut may cause some inconvenience, it is part of efforts to maintain and upgrade the electricity system in Tamil Nadu. Residents should check the detailed schedule released by TANGEDCO so they know exactly when the supply may be disrupted in their area.
