Odisha is set to experience a major boost in its railway connectivity with the introduction of three new Vande Bharat Express trains beginning September 15, 2024. This addition will bring the total number of Vande Bharat trains operating in the state to six.
The new routes include:
- Tata-Berhampur Vande Bharat Express
- Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express
- Durg-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express
These new trains are part of a broader initiative where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off ten new Vande Bharat trains. Odisha will see significant improvements in its rail infrastructure with these additions, enhancing travel options for both residents and visitors.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi received an invitation from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to attend the launch event at Berhampur. ECoR General Manager Parameswar Funkwal personally conveyed the invitation to the Chief Minister.
Current Vande Bharat Trains in Odisha:
Before the addition of the new trains, Odisha already operates three Vande Bharat Express trains:
- Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express: Flagged off in May 2023.
- Puri-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express: Launched in September 2023.
- Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express: Started in March 2024.
With the new trains, Odisha will now have a total of six Vande Bharat trains, greatly enhancing travel options within and beyond the state.
