The Kochi Metro network saw a record number of passengers in a single day during the New Year celebrations, marking the busiest day since it began operating. On the holiday, a total of 1,61,683 people used the city's integrated transport system, which includes the metro trains, electric feeder buses, and the Kochi Water Metro services.

Increase in Ridership
Most of these travellers, 1,39,766 passengers, rode on the metro trains, which ran extended services until 2 am to help people travelling late at night during the New Year festivities. The feeder buses were also kept running longer, until 4 am, and 6,817 people used these to reach metro stations or their final destinations. At the same time, about 15,000 commuters used the Kochi Water Metro, which connects several waterways in the city.
Highest Revenue
This busy day also brought in the highest revenue ever recorded for a single day, with earnings of ₹44.67 lakh from ticket sales across all services. Officials stated this success was due to good planning, on-time services, and extended operating hours that made travel easier during the celebrations.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited's managing director noted that the strong performance reflects its importance and how people rely on the network for daily travel and special events. He also said that having 15 electric feeder buses helped with first- and last-mile connectivity, making it easier for passengers to reach metro and water metro stations.
Since its operations in 2017, the Kochi Metro system has carried more than 17.5 crore passengers, and ridership has been growing steadily year after year, with 3.65 crore trips recorded in the latest full year.
