Mumbai is likely to receive more rain on Wednesday, August 12, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. The weather department has warned people to remain cautious as heavy rainfall could occur in isolated places.
Mumbai Under Yellow Alert on 12 August
The warning comes after Mumbai experienced moderate showers on Tuesday following a short period of relatively dry weather. The city is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with moderate rain likely across several areas. Some parts of Mumbai and its suburbs could also receive brief spells of heavy rain.
According to the forecast, Mumbai may see a few showers in the morning, followed by breezy weather and more rain during the afternoon. Rain and cloudy conditions are also expected to continue at night. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could be close to 27 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai recorded significant rainfall on Tuesday. The Santacruz weather station, which represents the western suburbs, received 43.8 mm of rain between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. During the same period, the Colaba observatory recorded 24.4 mm of rainfall.
Data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's automatic rain gauges also showed substantial rainfall across the city. The island city received 30.12 mm of rain until 6 p.m., while the eastern suburbs recorded 44.45 mm. The western suburbs received the highest amount, at 53.82 mm.
Advisory for Mumbai Residents
The IMD has advised residents of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar to stay alert during periods of intense rainfall. People should take precautions while travelling, especially in areas that are prone to waterlogging. Commuters are also advised to monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities. With monsoon activity increasing again, residents should remain prepared for sudden heavy showers and changing weather conditions.
