On a regular weekday morning, as Mumbai Metro One trains arrive and the city begins its routine, a quiet but important change is taking place. At several stations, commuters can now see modern Smart Lockers installed along the corridors. These lockers, introduced by Autope Payment Solutions Ltd, aim to make

life easier for metro users.
Installation of Smart Lockers in Mumbai Metro Stations
Autope, a fintech company that supports digital payments and services in public transport, has installed 996 Smart Lockers across 12 stations of Mumbai Metro One. The launch took place on November 19, marking a major step toward more convenient urban travel and logistics. For the metro's five lakh daily passengers, these lockers are expected to play a big role in improving how goods are delivered and stored. They will support smoother e-commerce deliveries and help connect the first and last-mile logistics chain, making movement of parcels faster, cheaper, and more sustainable.
Experts' Opinions
Autope's Managing Director, Anurag Bajpai, said the company's goal is to combine transport and financial services to create a smooth digital experience for commuters. He highlighted that installing nearly 1,000 Smart Lockers is an important milestone. Mumbai Metro One's CEO, Shyamantak Choudhury, said the lockers will make commuting easier by allowing passengers to travel lighter and feel more secure. He added that this brings the metro system closer to a modern, technology-driven travel experience.
Why Are the Smart Lockers Necessary?
The Smart Lockers are built to fit well within busy metro stations and offer several useful features. Commuters can access them easily through an app, SMS, or by scanning a QR code. They come in two sizes: small lockers with a capacity of around 5 kg and medium ones that can hold about 10 kg. The prices are affordable, ₹20 per hour for small lockers and ₹30 per hour for medium ones. They are monitored with CCTV and use OTP verification for safety.
Although expansion to other metro lines is yet to be planned, this launch sets the stage for more such smart solutions in Mumbai's future.
