Coastal residents have requested a change in the proposed schedule of the upcoming Mangaluru Central-Yesvantpur Vande Bharat Express. The West Coast Railway Passengers' Development Committee has appealed to Railway Minister V Somanna and South Western Railway officials to make Mangaluru the starting point and schedule its departure in the early morning.

The committee demanded that an early morning train from Mangaluru would be more convenient for people travelling to Bengaluru for work, business and other urgent purposes and asked railway authorities to consider the request before the final schedule is announced.
Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Proposed Timings
As per the proposed schedule, the Vande Bharat Express will leave Yesvantpur at 7:00 am and reach Mangaluru Central at 2:30 pm. On the return journey, the train will depart from Mangaluru at 3:00 pm and arrive at Yesvantpur at 10:30 pm. The committee has said these timings may not be particularly useful for passengers from Mangaluru and coastal Karnataka who need to travel to Bengaluru for office or business-related work.
Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Alternate Timings
The Railway Users' Forum has proposed an alternative schedule. It wants the train to leave Mangaluru Central at around 5:45 am and reach Yesvantpur at around 1:00 pm. For the return journey, the proposed departure from Yesvantpur is 4:00 pm, with arrival at Mangaluru Central at 11:30 pm.
According to the forum, an early morning departure would allow passengers to reach Bengaluru by afternoon, complete their office or business work, and return to Mangaluru by train on the same night.
The committee has also pointed to the existing Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express, which operates with a morning departure from Mangaluru and a night return. It has urged the Railways to consider a similar pattern for the Mangaluru-Bengaluru service.
Mangaluru Rail Network to Undergo Change from October 1
Another important change is that the Mangaluru railway network will come under the jurisdiction of South Western Railway from October 1. The operation and maintenance of the Vande Bharat will consequently come under a single railway zone, the Mysuru Division.
The West Coast Railway Passengers' Development Committee has requested the Ministry of Railways and South Western Railway to resolve any technical issues and consider the revised timings before finalising the schedule.
