The Maharashtra government has sanctioned ₹180 crore for three Pune Metro expansion projects for the 2026-27 financial year. The funding includes ₹100 crore as equity and ₹80 crore as an interest-free subordinate loan for the Swargate-Katraj corridor. The state Urban Development Department issued the directive on September 18.
Pune Metro Expansion Corridors
The Swargate-Katraj corridor, being developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), is planned as a fully underground extension with an approved cost of ₹2,954.75 crore, with the state government committing ₹397.83 crore as its equity share.
The latest ₹100 crore release takes the total equity amount released by the state for the Swargate-Katraj project to ₹200 crore. Earlier, ₹60 crore was released in August 2025, followed by another ₹40 crore in December 2025.
The state has also approved an additional ₹80 crore interest-free subordinate loan for the corridor. This takes the total sanctioned subordinate loan to ₹322.10 crore, while the total amount disbursed under this component will reach ₹160 crore after the latest release.
According to Maha-Metro officials, the funding is being released in phases and will support priority works related to expanding Metro connectivity in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
A separate government resolution covers two extensions of the existing Vanaz-Ramwadi Metro corridor: the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk Corridor 2A and the Ramwadi-Wagholi/Vitthalwadi Corridor 2B. The combined revised approved cost of these extensions is ₹3,626.24 crore, while the state's committed equity contribution is ₹479.71 crore. Under the latest order, ₹20 crore has been approved from the 2026-27 budget as the state's equity contribution. This takes the total equity disbursed for the two extensions to ₹80 crore. The state had earlier released ₹60 crore on June 19, 2026.
Together, the two extensions span 12.75 km and will have 13 stations. They are planned to improve Metro connectivity to Chandni Chowk, Kothrud, Kharadi and Wagholi.
The government resolution also requires Maha-Metro to maintain separate accounts for funds received from the Centre, the Maharashtra government, and Pune Municipal Corporation.
