Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch new trains in Kerala during his visit to Thiruvananthapuram on January 23, 2026. This event is part of a push to improve rail travel in the state before the assembly elections scheduled for April-May. The Indian Railways will introduce three new Amrit Bharat Express trains and one regular passenger train.
List of Train Services Across Kerala
These trains will start services across Kerala and beyond:
• Nagercoil-Mangaluru Amrit Bharat Express - This train will run through major towns in Kerala and connect the far south to the northern coastal city of Mangaluru.
• Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express - It will link the Kerala capital with Tambaram near Chennai, running via Nagercoil.
• Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Amrit Bharat Express - This service will connect Kerala with the Telangana capital, traveling through central Kerala towns.
• Guruvayur-Thrissur Passenger Train - A daily local train (MEMU service) between two important cultural towns in Kerala.
The Amrit Bharat Express trains are designed to be modern and efficient. They are non-AC (non-air-conditioned) but can carry over 1,800 passengers. They have a top design speed of more than 130 km/h and will stop at major stations in the state, improving travel options for many people. These additional facilities are meant to boost connectivity and convenience for passengers in Kerala and for those travelling to neighbouring states. The new trains will provide more choices for both long-distance and daily travel and are part of a larger effort to upgrade the railway network in the region.
