Malaysia Airlines is expanding its footprint in India by resuming direct flights to Kolkata from Kuala Lumpur starting December 2. This move is part of the airline's strategy to enhance its service offerings in the Indian market. With the addition of Kolkata, Malaysia Airlines will serve a total of ten Indian cities directly from Kuala Lumpur, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi Amritsar, Trivandrum, and Ahmedabad.

The airline has announced that it will deploy Boeing 737-800 aircraft to operate five weekly flights on the newly reintroduced Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata route. This decision comes after a hiatus since 2006 when the airline last offered direct flights to Kolkata. By reintroducing these flights, Malaysia Airlines is not only reconnecting an important link between India and Malaysia but also increasing its overall weekly flights between the two countries to 76.
Enhanced Connectivity and Services
Malaysia Airlines' commitment to the Indian market is evident from its current operation of 71 weekly flights to India. Notably, the frequency of flights to Amritsar was increased from four times a week to daily flights in August. This enhancement in connectivity reflects the airline's dedication to serving the needs of its passengers traveling between India and Malaysia.
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), emphasized the importance of the Indian market, stating, "India is a key market for us, and by continually enhancing our network and increasing frequencies, we aim to deliver exceptional travel experiences, complemented by Malaysia Airlines' renowned hospitality." This statement underscores the airline's strategy to not only increase flight options but also to ensure a high-quality travel experience for its passengers.
The introduction of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kolkata is part of Malaysia Airlines' broader strategy to strengthen its network and cater to the growing demand for travel between India and Malaysia. By offering more flight options and convenient schedules, the airline aims to attract a larger share of travelers, including business and leisure passengers, thereby reinforcing its presence in the competitive aviation market.
In conclusion, the recommencement of direct flights to Kolkata marks a significant milestone for Malaysia Airlines as it continues to expand its services in India. With a total of 76 weekly flights now connecting India and Malaysia, the airline is set to provide enhanced connectivity and a superior travel experience to its passengers, backed by its commitment to hospitality and service excellence.
