The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded a major construction contract for a new elevated metro section in Lucknow. This work is part of Lucknow Metro Phase-1B and will cover five stations: Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasant Kunj on a 4.6-km stretch. Including GST, the total estimated cost of the project is around ₹453 crore.

Lucknow Metro Project Inclusion
Apart from the five stations, the project also includes the construction of an elevated viaduct of about 4.6 km. In addition, a 740-metre ramp will be built to connect the main metro corridor with the depot's entry and exit points. UPMRC said the contract was awarded after a competitive bidding process, where companies were evaluated on both technical and financial grounds. The contract has gone to Ranjit Buildcon Ltd., which has been given 24 months from the start of work to complete the entire package.
Officials said the project is not limited to building tracks and platforms. It also includes station architecture, station infrastructure, pre-engineered building structures, water supply, sanitation, drainage, fire-fighting systems, electrical and mechanical works, and other external development works. The aim is to ensure that the stations are fully ready for passenger operations once construction and testing are completed.
How will the Lucknow Metro Phase 1B Benefit People?
This new metro corridor is expected to improve travel for people living in these areas. At present, residents of Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Vasant Kunj mostly depend on road transport, and many of these localities face heavy traffic during peak hours. Once the metro line is completed, it will provide a faster and more reliable public transport option for thousands of commuters.
UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said this new metro stretch will help connect older parts of Lucknow with newly developing residential and commercial areas. He added that the project is an important step in Lucknow Metro Phase-1B and will provide the city with a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly transport system while supporting balanced urban growth.
