The world's first ladies' special train service running between Churchgate and Borivali in Mumbai has completed 34 years. This train was started on May 5, 1992, by Indian Railways to provide a safer and more comfortable travel option for women, especially during busy peak hours. At that time, many working

women faced difficulties while travelling in crowded local trains. To address this problem, the railways introduced a train exclusively for women passengers, which was a major step toward improving safety and convenience for female commuters in Mumbai's suburban railway system.
Ladies' Special Train Expansion
Initially, the service operated only between Churchgate and Borivali. However, due to its success and increasing demand, it was extended up to Virar in 1993. Over the years, more such services were added and modified based on passenger needs. The railway authorities explained that these trains have been expanded in phases. Several routes and services were introduced, changed, or discontinued at different times to improve efficiency and meet demand. Some trains were extended further, while others were adjusted or replaced with new routes.
Today, the ladies' special train remains an important part of Mumbai's transport system. It continues to serve thousands of women commuters daily, offering them a sense of safety and ease during travel. Railway officials have described this service as a significant milestone in women-focused public transport.
