Kolkata Metro, India's oldest and one of its most iconic metro systems, has launched an upgraded version of its mobile app, "Aamar Kolkata Metro." According to a press release from the Ministry of Railways, this new version aims to make metro travel faster, easier, and fully digital. Passengers can now

plan routes, buy tickets, and recharge smart cards directly from their smartphones.
Kolkata Metro Celebrates 41 Years of Operation
The launch comes as Kolkata Metro celebrates 41 years of operation, marking another major step toward modernization and a better commuter experience. Speaking at the event, Metro Railway Kolkata General Manager Shubhranshu Shekhar Mishra said that the goal is to make metro travel completely cashless and card-free. "We want people to travel just by scanning their phones," he explained, adding that the updated app offers digital ticketing, multiple payment options, and a simpler travel process.
Smart Gateway System
The upgraded app is a Smart Gateway system developed by HDFC Bank, which supports several payment modes including UPI, debit and credit cards, and net banking. With this, passengers can easily buy QR-based mobile tickets, recharge smart cards, and even pre-book tickets for future rides. This eliminates the need to stand in long queues at ticket counters, making travel more convenient, especially during peak hours.
Kolkata Metro to Enhance Commutation
The app's digital-first approach aligns with the government's vision of promoting smart mobility and a cashless economy. By combining user-friendly design with modern payment integration, the Kolkata Metro aims to offer a smoother, faster, and safer experience for lakhs of daily commuters. This new app marks a major leap in Kolkata Metro's journey, bringing India's oldest metro system in line with today's digital age while continuing to serve the people of the City of Joy with greater efficiency and comfort.
